S.O.N.A.R. Achievements Not Unlocking: Why It Happens
Why S.O.N.A.R. achievements aren't unlocking yet, what the Steam page shows ahead of the October 29, 2026 launch, and what to check once the full game is out.

The short answer
As of 2026-10-22, S.O.N.A.R. - Submarine Operators Not Actually Ready has not been released yet, so there is no full-game achievement set for you to unlock. The official Steam page lists the release date as Oct 29, 2026 and shows the message "This game is not yet available on Steam," with a note that it plans to unlock in approximately seven days. What is playable right now is the demo released for Steam Next Fest, which runs October 19–26, 2026.
So if you have been chasing a milestone in the demo and nothing popped, that is not a bug you can fix — the achievements belong to a game that has not shipped.

What the Steam page actually shows
The store page lists Steam Achievements among the game's features, alongside Online Co-op, Online PvP, Steam Cloud and Steam Leaderboards. What it does not show is an achievement list: the page carries no individual achievement entries to browse. That combination — a feature tag with no visible achievement list — is what you would expect from a store page for a title that is still a week from launch.
The feature list is a statement of intent for the release build. It is not evidence that achievements are live in the demo you can download today.
What you are probably playing
If you got in during the run-up to launch, you most likely played one of two builds, neither of which is the release app:
- The demo. It arrived on September 30, 2026, and was updated for Steam Next Fest on October 19, 2026 with a new co-op mission, a single-player tutorial with training stations, and controller vibration. The changelog for that build is version 0.9.44.0.
- The playtests. A final playtest ran September 24–28, 2026 with 4v4 Team Deathmatch and a new co-op mission. Abylight reported over 85,000 players in that round. The studio's own playtest announcement explains how access was handed out through Steam.
The Next Fest announcement describes the demo's progression as unlocking "uniforms, weapons, food and hats as you play, giving you a taste of the gameplay progression you'll see in the full release." That is in-game gear progression, not Steam achievements — the demo announcement does not mention achievements at all. If you unlocked a hat or a weapon in the demo, that is working as described; it is a different system from the achievement list.

After October 29: if achievements still do not pop
Once the full game is out, a missing achievement becomes a normal troubleshooting question rather than a timing one. The following are general Steam habits, offered as things worth checking rather than confirmed behaviour of this particular build:
- Confirm you launched the full game rather than a demo entry or a leftover playtest build in your library. Achievements are tracked against the release app, and demo builds commonly do not grant them.
- Check that Steam is online and not in Offline Mode, since progress has to reach Steam to register.
- Make sure the Steam overlay is enabled for the game, then fully restart Steam and relaunch.
- Use Steam's Verify integrity of game files option if the game itself is behaving oddly around the moment an achievement should trigger.
- Give it a short delay and a session restart before assuming the trigger is broken; some achievements only commit when a mission or save ends.
None of these are documented S.O.N.A.R. fixes. They are the standard checks that resolve most achievement syncing problems across Steam games.
Where to report a genuinely stuck achievement
Abylight Barcelona has been explicit that they want bug reports. In the final playtest announcement they wrote: "If you run into bugs, have wild ideas, or just want to tell us what you loved, please shout at us in the discussions or on Discord! We read absolutely everything you send!" The Steam store page also links a community Discord.
If an achievement fails to unlock after launch and the checks above do not help, that is the right channel — the Steam discussions or the Discord — rather than a wiki page. Include what you did, which mission or mode, and whether the in-game counter advanced.
FAQ
Why are S.O.N.A.R. achievements not unlocking?
Because the game is not out yet. As of 2026-10-22 the official Steam page lists a planned release date of Oct 29, 2026 and states the game is not yet available on Steam. There is no shipped achievement set to unlock, so nothing can pop in the demo or playtest builds.
Does the S.O.N.A.R. demo have achievements?
The Steam Next Fest demo announcement describes in-game unlocks — uniforms, weapons, food and hats — as "a taste of the gameplay progression you'll see in the full release." It does not describe Steam achievements, and the Steam store page shows no achievement list as of 2026-10-22.
When will achievements start working?
The Steam page gives Oct 29, 2026 as the release date, and Steam Achievements is listed among the game's features. If achievements are still not registering after you are playing the released game, treat it as a support issue and report it to the developers.
Where should I report an achievement that won't unlock?
The Steam discussions or the S.O.N.A.R. community Discord, both linked from the game's Steam page. The developers have said they read everything sent through those channels.
